More Club History The Bachelor Beauts Square Dance Club was started by Larry & Lee Musgrave in January 1963. They graduated their first class in April 1963. Larry called for the club for eight years. All dances and classes were held in the Eastern Star Grange Hall on Airport Road (Powell Butte Highway) east of Bend. Larry remained an active member of the Bachelor Beauts until his passing in March 2005 at the age of 90. D.N. “Slick” Fox became club caller in July 1971. Slick and his wife Melba had been club members since April 1968 when they graduated from a class given by Larry Musgrave. The club moved their dances to Tumalo Grade School in January, 1976. Slick and Melba built Fox Hall especially for square dancers. They taught classes there until Slick passed away in May 1988. The club continued to hold dances with guest callers and in December 1989, the club obtained the services of Jim Steele as a regular caller. Jim and his family moved to Newberg, Oregon in 1992 and it became necessary to again use guest callers.. Fox Hall was sold in January 1992 and the club then moved their dances back to the Eastern Star Grange Hall with classes being held at various locations in Bend. In January 1999, Ron Bliven became the Club Caller. In January 2003, the club began dancing and holding classes at the Pine Forest Grange Hall on Boyd Acres Road on the north end of Bend. The club continues to dance every 1st & 3rd Saturday at the Pine Forest Grange.
